What makes the handpan so unique?

With the handpan you can play melodies and percussion at the same time, a phenomenon that is only available within a limited number of instruments.

This instrument is an exercise for the mind, sense of coordination, and understanding of what is possible to create with beautifully tuned steel. The sound is so unique it is often mistaken for a stringed instrument.  

This immersive experience is a holistic exploration of the handpan, blending history, technique, and meditation to cultivate a profound connection with both the instrument and oneself.

Concert:

After the handpan immersion, join us for a live concert by Sofia and friends outdoors in a backyard sanctuary by the fire and under the stars. Bring a blanket and lay on the ground to connect to the melodic soundscape moving through.

Meet your teacher:

Sofia Dias is a multi-instrumentalist from Miami, Florida. Graduated from Miami Dade college in Music Education, Sofia focuses on world percussion and has been involved in various music projects in her community ever since. Sofia works with music in many ways, from performance to education and even therapy. Since 2018 she has held an in-depth practice of the Handpan and has dedicated most of that time studying it in the context of Music Therapy. Sofia has also been a part of Miami’s very own samba percussion community MiamiBloco since 2019, paying respect to her Brazilian heritage.
