Everyday Djembe (8 Pre-Recorded Classes)
The process of remembering our inner rhythm is a powerful initiation. When we hear the call to the drum, we must listen. And sometimes it can feel like there isn't much guidance on how to begin.

So I created my 8-week class, Everyday Djembe, to help you reconnect with your inner rhythm and experience the power of inner activation in your daily life. 🪘

In this series, you will open your voice, sink into your power, learn technical skills for the West African djembe, and move through deep, intuitive drumming for meditation and reconnection with your true expression.
. . .
What to expect in Everyday Djembe...
Joshua Ott
"Your energy was awesome. You are a beautiful person. You broke everything down very simple for everyone. Nice simple rhythms that we can eventually build off of. Perfect place for beginners and even people that play the dejembe could learn a lot from you out. Aho!"
Karina Perafan
I am honored and grateful to know you and have this opportunity to learn from you. What you are doing is amazing and I am so happy with my progress and what I have taken from this class :)
Lili B
"I am beyond grateful for listening to my sacral and stepping out of my comfort zone. I have never considered myself a musician but I am rewriting that story and this hands on experience and support from Katie and the class really allowed me to let go, learn, follow my joy, and just do the damn thing! I am so grateful and wish this connection and liberation for all (especially the women!)."
What to expect in class:
1. An opening drop in with a centering meditation.

2. Djembe history, class topic explanation, and how we can connect to our blood and soul ancestors through drumming.
3. Drum and voice activation to shake off the week’s willies and ground into the space.
4. Grounding djembe instruction with techniques and rhythms.

5. Chants & songs to learn to drum along with.

6. Free play and jams.

7. All the life lessons and musings that I have derived from drumming!

And honestly? So much more (I am a fickle Gemini, after all).

*The course includes 8 full-class recordings, 20 exercise & activation videos, and a downloadable class PDF outline so you can easily go back and reference everything you heard and learned.
Weekly Schedule
Class 1-Basic Technique, History, and Intuitive Play
In this class we will drop in and set intentions before covering the basic technique, the history of the djembe drum, The Wave, Practicing the Strokes, and intuitive playing to open the vessel for our personal rhythms to begin to come through.

Class 2-Drumming for Meditation and Trance, Ancestral Connection
In this class we will review basic technique, move into drumming to reach elevated stated, and connect with our ancestors both blood and soul through the sacred drum heartbeat.
Class 3-Rhythmic Experiencing and Meditation
In this class we will be learning three (3) rhythms you can practice and take with you. Use these to jam to music you know or create your own meditative experience. We will also dive into accent and dynamic play as well as a vocal activation exercise that will introduce us to singing and playing together.

Class 4-The Art of the Solo-Channeling Your Personal Message Through Rhythm
In this class we will begin to learn how to create our own solo moments and "fills" at the end of rhythmic patterns. This lets us really open up to how we want to express on the drum and allow the medicine of vibration to come through us.

Class 5-Body Flow, Song, and Chanting
In this class we will practice the use of chanted mantra along with drumming to notice the meditative effects of cyclical vibration. We will continue to learn new djembe patterns to support this expression.

Class 6-Personal Song & New Rhythms
In this class we will be working on creating our own short song or mantra to be able to drum to. We will synchronize different parts of the mind by learning to sing and drum in meditation.

Class 7-Create Your Own Rhythm-The Message
After creating our own song, we will learn to listen to songs and create rhythms to accompany them. This allows us to use our intuitive ability to feel rhythm and translate it into something we can play and share.

Class 8-The Final Celebration
This is the final celebration, final graduation moment for us all! Let's review all we've learned and share what we are most excited about. This is a moment to look back and see how we have grown and leave with a few more rhythmic surprises to keep us going and going.
