Closing public performance

A semester-long devotional practice season weaving frame, shamanic, and djembe drumming with voice, ritual theatre, and intentional movement — culminating in a community performance and other potential festival performances.

This is the fullest expression of the goddess and her drum, activated through communal study and shared on stage.

Each semester, we enter deep study and rehearsal across hand-drumming technique, cultural lineage, vocal expression, and ritual theatre choreography. Every choreographed piece embodies a specific myth or archetype. Each woman steps into a role that honors her unique magic (more information on this listed below).

Our ancient intention: to rebirth priestess archetypes through ritual theater expression and the sacred drum.

Our performance intention: to perform for our local community and on festival stages nationwide.

Leadership Roles

Archetype & Myth Guide — FILLED (Nazira Sacasa)

Leads the troupe in selecting the central myth, goddess, or archetype that will anchor our semester — while weaving in the broader constellation of related figures and stories we will study along the way. Researches the priestess lineages, ancient sisterhood circles, and cultural traditions connected to each archetype, bringing materials to life through guided discussion, printed resources, and visual presentations shared with the group. The intellectual and spiritual spine of our repertoire.

Movement Guide — AVAILABLE

Researches the movement vocabulary, ritual dance forms, and somatic practices rooted in the living and ancient traditions connected to our semester's archetype. Develops and leads choreography that helps each woman embody the myth in her body — not just perform it. Brings visual references, historical imagery, and movement examples to share with the group each session.

Rhythmic Guide — FILLED (Katie Berns Lee)

Holds the drumming integrity of the troupe. Leads technical drilling in frame, shamanic, and djembe rhythms and selects the rhythmic scores connected to our semester's cultural lineage and archetype. Roots our playing in living and ancient percussion traditions, bringing cultural context, visual materials, and rhythmic research to share with the troupe. The heartbeat of every performance.

Artistic Guide — AVAILABLE

Stewards the visual world of the troupe — researching costuming, makeup, props, and aesthetic traditions connected to the priestess lineages and cultural roots of our semester's archetype. Ensures that what the audience sees is as intentional and potent as what they feel. Brings visual references and inspiration to each session and coordinates the aesthetic direction of the end-of-season performance.

Rhythmic Guide — FILLED (Katie Berns Lee)

Vocal Guide Researches the chants, songs, toning practices, and vocal traditions rooted in the living and ancient lineages connected to our semester's archetype. Leads vocal warm-ups and guides the troupe in weaving voice seamlessly into the drumming and movement. Brings recordings, printed lyrics, and visual materials to share with the group so every woman understands the cultural roots of what she is singing.

Sisterhood Bonding Guide — AVAILABLE

Tends to the relational and emotional field of the troupe. Researches and draws from ancient sisterhood circle traditions and priestess community practices to design connection rituals, bonding experiences, and group culture throughout the semester. Ensures every woman feels seen, supported, and woven into the circle — both inside and outside of rehearsal.

Performance & Logistics Guide — FILLED (Michelle Lee Escalera)

Manages all logistics surrounding the end-of-season performance and any festival or community stage opportunities. Coordinates venue, ticketing, run of show, tech needs, and scheduling across the semester. The grounded anchor that ensures the vision lands on stage with integrity and ease.

Ritual Guide — AVAILABLE

Researches and designs the ceremonial container for the troupe's work — drawing from shamanic, earth-based, goddess, and priestess traditions to ensure every session and every performance is held in sacred intention. Connects our practice to the living and ancient lineages we are working with, bringing ritual tools, ceremonial protocols, and visual presentations to ground the troupe in the deeper why behind the work.
