Overview

The Curandera does not bypass the wound. She walks into it — eyes open, hands full of medicine. She is the original healer, the keeper of grief and grace, earth and fire, rhythm and song.

Way of the Curandera follows this lineage. It is a day of descent and return — opening through somatic healing, deepening through embodied wisdom, nourishing through community, and closing in the full primal pulse of the drum circle.

Guided by Katie Berns Lee alongside elder & medicine woman Luz Duque, & Colombian embodiment artist Valentina Parra Silva -- this day-long ritual experience is medicine for women ready to meet themselves in the fire of transformation.

No prior experience needed. This experience is meant to be felt.

1. 🌿 Morning: Grief, Joy & the Muse

Workshop with Valentina Parra Silva Doors 10:30 AM · Workshop begins promptly at 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Grief is not the end of the story — it is the doorway. What waits on the other side of true alchemical descent is not more darkness. It is joy. Expansion. Miracles moving through a body that finally has room to receive them.

In this opening workshop, Valentina guides us through the full arc — from the somatic depths of what we carry, through the alchemical fire of transformation, and into the embodied experience of what becomes possible when we have truly let go.

We will:

• Meet grief as a portal, not a problem

• Move through somatic alchemy — releasing what no longer belongs to us

• Open into joy, expansion, and miracle-consciousness through the body

• Discover the muse that is born when the weight is finally set down

• Begin the day cracked open and full of light

Attire: Comfortable clothing you can move in Bring: Water bottle, journal if desired

2. Afternoon: Altar Medicine

Workshop with Luz Duque 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM

The altar is not a decoration. It is a living conversation between the visible and the invisible — a place where intention becomes form, and the sacred becomes tangible.

Luz brings her deep lineage of altar medicine into this afternoon container, guiding us into the art of building, tending, and receiving from the altar as a daily devotional practice. This is ancestral technology. This is how the Curandera keeps her channel clear.

3. ☀️ Potluck on the Land & Relaxation

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Community is medicine. We gather on the land to share food, integrate the afternoon's teachings, and breathe together before the evening ceremony begins. Come with a dish to share and time to lay out and linger.

4. Cacao Ceremony by the Sacred Fire

With Valentina Parra Silva 6:30 PM

As evening falls, we will step outside and gather around the fire.

Valentina will guide us through cacao ceremony to ground us in before we take flight in the full Women's Primal Drumming Ceremony.

5. Women's Primal Drumming Ceremony

With Katie Berns Lee, Valentina Parra Silva & Luz Duque 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM

The night closes with the full ceremony — the heartbeat beneath all healing. Women's Primal Drumming Ceremonies begin with a ritual theater performance by 13 divine Goddesses, move through deep meditation, activate through voice and ancestral chanting, and rise into primal movement, wild woman drumming, and deep expression. At the end, we lay in full opening and receive what wants to come through.

Who are we as the curanderas, here to rise in our alchemy and power?

We will:

• Be opened by the 13 Goddesses of the Curandera in a 7-minute ritual theater procession

• Descend into our shadow realms and illuminate them with prismatic LIGHT

• Express our primal selves through voice and movement

• Alchemize grief, shame, and societal conditioning into power

• Drum WILDLY and meditatively

• Reclaim drumming as our BIRTHRIGHT

• Lay in deep savasana and full opening to receive

• Come into deeper sisterhood and self-love

About the Facilitators

Katie Berns Lee

Katie Berns Lee is the founder of Drum Temple LLC, where she helps people open their hearts, ground in, and get in touch with their “truest and most primal selves” through deep activation, ancestral remembrance, and reconnection to the primordial heartbeat.

Through her music, Katie connects deeply to indigenous and ancient cultures from West Africa, Latin America, Mongolia, the Middle East, and folk America, and her mission encourages a return to original ways of feeling, expressing, and being as stewards of this Earth.

Katie believes that rhythm activates vibrational messages from our body and soul—so let us use it to communicate the messages coming through us during times of great responsibility and transformation.
