a word from Katie
I believe that we cannot exist in full spectrum and expression within these human bodies without the medicines of rhythm & song.
-- we are AUTOMATICALLY programmed to be "in rhythm" and "in harmony"

Rhythm saved my life as an adult, and signaled to me that it was safe to exist as a child.

Before that, I felt as if I could not hear and feel on this planet.

It is our RESPONSIBILITY to return to the Primordial Pulse within through these sacred "boomerangs" so we can alchemize the deepest suffering on this planet and bring humanity back into the light.
TESTIMONIALS
Shylah Ray is a pro. Straight up. If you’re lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with her, be ready for greatness. In our recording sessions, she brought years of experience to flawlessly write original material and record buttery smooth, soulful vocals that impeccably fit the songs. She took my songs and ideas on a quantum leap to their highest potential. Shylah’s dynamic vocal versatility, attention to detail, and the thing that can’t be quantified – VIBE – is incredibly refined. Plan on magic, because that’s all she’s bringing.

There's something about the way [KATIE] holds space that feels so rare You have this lightness the sparkle it's almost effervescent -- at the same at the exact same time you're so grounded so anchored. You're tracking everything not in a controlling way but in this deep embodied, knowing of what the field needs -- where we are, what wants to come next -- and you just leave it in real time. And your relationship with the drum doesn't feel like you're playing it -- it feels like you are it. Like one heartbeat moving through you and through all of us I could feel that in my body the entire time.

a word from Shylah
I am a vocalist, musician, and teacher, but before any of that—I am rhythm.

Percussion was the first instrument I fell in love with. It taught me how to listen, feel, how to be in harmony with music. From a young age, I knew rhythm was the foundation to everything. As a singer, that understanding lives in my body.
My hands know what to do. My voice follows.

I don’t separate rhythm from my life. I feel it in everything. It’s in me.

Music is not something I do, it’s who I am. Everything I create and everything I share with my students comes from that place. Rhythm is the pulse behind it all.

And song—song lives inside of me. I am a walking instrument. I’m always in relationship with my voice, always in practice. Singing is a daily ritual, a sacred and healing act that I return to every day of my life.
FAQs

1. Do I need to know how to play music or hand drums to join?
No experience is necessary--this is all levels. It depends how deep YOU want to go.

2. Do I need my own djembe & shamanic drums to take the course?
YES. Especially to be able to deepen into study on your own and live this experience so that you can become a testament of pulse and embodied rhythm. Recommendations for drums will be sent as soon as you register.

3. I don't have rhythm. Do you think this is right for me?
The real truth: EVERYONE has rhythm. When we are children, we are often told by others that we should not sing or play music, or that we are not good. EVERYONE on this planet carries the codes to the Primordial Pulse within them.

4. I can't make every class. Will the recordings be available for replay?
While it is recommended to come to each class live, we understand life happens. YES, the replays will be available.

5. I do not want to be a professional percussionist. Is this still for me?
This course is for anyone who wants to embody their inner truth on a whole new level. It has nothing to do with performance, and yet, if you are a performer, returning to your truth will enhance your transmission tenfold.

6. Is this course for men and women?
YES. While most of my events are for women, this is for everyone! Take advantage.

7. Is it normal to feel nervous about expressing myself in such vulnerable ways?
YES. And please know that, in this space, you will be held, encouraged, and able to hold boundaries if something truly feels outside of your zone of safety. We are here together to grow through safety, community, and rhythmic learning.

I highly recommend this course to anyone who is a drummer in any way or wants to just learn more about the origin and basics of the drum. The Ceremonial Drum Online Course (Drum Temple)
I would say - if you are on the fence about starting the course, this one is a no brainer as it not only cultivates a new skill but is also deeply healing as you proceed into the drumming journey. It is something to experience as a deep connection within and without.

The Ceremonial Drum Online Course
I am honored to learn from and carry [KATIE's] djembe wisdom through the deep sands.

What an impactful, vibrant, powerful, fulfilling, expansive, connecting, and joyous weekend of drum and song.

Connecting with like minded women, to learning to play the djembe, connecting with my ancestral depth, accepting the new path that has awakened within me, learning to step back, breathe and watch stories unfold with guided lessons following them, to learning how to send love to those women that have had a hard time connecting with their own femininity that they may have taken out on you due to their own pains and in gratittude to nurturing and loving women that lifted me up when I was down and so so many beautiful encouraging moments and lessons intertwined in it all.

The highlights are written in my journal, too powerful to share, in addition to connecting with the djembe and finding my inner child like self playing and jumping in the salt waves for hours.

Cannot wait to see what has awakened within me after this past weekend. Im still processing it all, to the point it's to difficult to express any verbal words.
